What is Star Taxi?
Star Taxi is the app you use to order a taxi in just a few seconds. Your order goes straight to the taxi drivers near you, and once one of them accepts it, you can see on screen who is coming to pick you up and how long it will take to arrive.
It all works much like ride-sharing apps, but without surge pricing.
Why use Star Taxi in Bucharest?
In a large, busy city like Bucharest, it matters to know in advance who is picking you up, how long you still have to wait and what the ride costs. Star Taxi gives you this information before you get in the car:
- Order easily: the app locates you automatically via GPS, or you can manually enter the exact address where you want to be picked up, whether you are in the Old Town, at Gara de Nord or at home in an outlying neighbourhood.
- You choose the driver: you see the driver’s name, call sign, company, rate, rating and reviews, then accept or send the request to another driver.
- Track the taxi on the map: you see in real time how the car approaches and can talk to the driver directly in the app.
- Pay the way you prefer: cash, by card in the app or with a voucher.
- Favourite drivers: at the end you rate the ride and can add the driver to your favourites or block them.
- Coverage: Bucharest–Ilfov and all major cities in Romania.
Taxi app Bucharest
The Star Taxi app is available for free on the App Store, Google Play and AppGallery. Once your account is set up, ordering a taxi in Bucharest takes just a few steps:
- Open the app and confirm the pickup address (detected via GPS or chosen on the map).
- Place the order; it is sent to the drivers closest to you.
- Once a driver accepts, you see their name, call sign, company and rate on screen.
- Track the taxi’s arrival on the map and contact the driver from the app if needed.
- At the end, pay for the ride and leave a rating and a review for the driver.
All your orders stay in the app history, under “Orders”. Answers to other questions about your account and the app are in the app FAQ.
Airport taxi Bucharest
You can order a taxi from the app to Henri Coandă International Airport (Otopeni) from any address in Bucharest. Set the pickup point, place the order and track the taxi on the map until it reaches you.
It is just as easy to order a taxi to train stations such as Gara de Nord, to shopping centres such as AFI Cotroceni, Băneasa Shopping City, București Mall Vitan and Plaza România, or to any other address you want.
When you arrive at Henri Coandă International Airport (Otopeni), you can order a taxi directly from the Star Taxi app or from the taxi ordering info-kiosk installed in the Arrivals terminal, as part of our partnership with the airport.
Orders placed at the info-kiosk are sent to the taxi drivers registered on the waiting list. Once a driver accepts the order, the info-kiosk prints a receipt with all the details you need to identify the taxi and complete the ride.
It is important to keep the receipt until the end of your journey.
The taxi pickup point is signposted in the airport with markings and signs.
Taxi fares Bucharest
Star Taxi does not set the fare. You pay the amount recorded by the car’s taximeter and communicated by the driver at the destination, at the rate of the taxi company you travel with. You see the driver’s rate per kilometre in the app before you accept the ride.
The price estimate shown in the app is for information only; the final amount is the one on the taximeter. Downloading and using the app is free for passengers.
Taxi fares in Bucharest are set by the taxi companies, within the maximum fares approved by the local authorities.
Fares range from 2.59 lei/km to 3.19 lei/km, the most common being 2.89 lei/km.
The fare that applies to each ride is the one displayed on the taxi door and recorded by the taximeter.
Which taxi drivers do we work with?
Orders placed in Star Taxi go to licensed taxi drivers affiliated with taxi companies authorised to carry passengers as a taxi service. Before receiving orders, every driver registers on the platform and uploads their documents and certificate, which the Star Taxi team checks to validate the account.
As a passenger, you always have access to the assigned driver’s details: name, call sign, company and rate, as well as the rating and reviews left by other users. If something is not right, you can use the “Report abuse” option in the app or write to us via the contact page.
